Andrew Jackson Jihad Christmas Island (LP) All the dirty kids at Rainbow Gatherings were playing AJJ songs last summer. I checked out their extensive catalogue and there are some great songs there. This new album allegedly came after a dry spell (writer's block) for the main song writer. It shows. Although they still have a spark, it sounds like they are repeating themselves.

Babyshambles Sequel To The Prequel (LP) Just because. It's been out for a while, but we'll never see Pete Doherty perform in America... but it is just in time to commemorate The Libertines sure-to-be-triumphant shows in London this coming July.
The Beatles January 30, 1969 Live on The Roof (You Tube) Again, just because. The famous rooftop concert at The Apple Records building in London, which was kind of the last Beatles concert. The last official concert was at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966. They're tearing down The 'Stick, but not before Sir Paul plays there this August...

Bob Dylan Full Moon & Empty Arms (Sinatra cover) from Shadows In The Night (LP). Hey, Dylan has a new album coming out. I am a huge fan and even I have to admit the increasingly croaky voice can be trying at times, but I bet there will still be some spectacular moments on the album, and I betcha that you just might be able to catch Bob and his band on a good night this summer... but it could be an off night too, 50-50 chance.... but if it's good, it's really good.... And he fucking wrote Blowin' in the Wind, Times They are a-Changin', Like a Rolling Stone, All Along the Watchtower, Knocking on Heaven's Door, etc. and you didn't, so show some fucking respect....

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger Midnight Sun (LP). You know, Sean Lennon and his girlfriend's band. He's really good, and actually she's really good too. (Her name is Charlotte Kemp Muhl.) Very psychedelic and I guess no one will complain that some of the tracks sound decidedly Beatle-esque. After all, John did teach Sean how to speak so it's no surprise they sound alike.

Neil Young A Letter Home (LP) I could do without the paean to his late mother (sorry, Neil) but he offers some pretty cool covers here, of songs by Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Phil Ochs, Bert Jansch, and the these-days ubiquitous Everly Brothers (Rest in Peace, Phil...), all recorded in Jack White's Voice-O-Graph machine.

Parquet Courts Black and White (7-Inch Version) from Sunbathing Animal (LP) & Pilgrims To Nowhere (B-side of the Sunbathing Animal single). One of the best new American bands, featuring not one but two great psychedelic guitarists who aren't afraid to solo until we all bleed.
Paul Weller Brand New Toy from More Modern Classics (LP). New album coming soon from the master (see his band The Jam and other classic Brit pop, like his 2010 solo effort Wake Up The Nation)
Richard Ashcroft Future's Bright from The Adjustment Bureau (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) & Bitter Sweet Symphony (Acoustic)(You Tube). Hadn't heard this song from the soundtrack until today. I'm just one of the many fans waiting for the follow-up to the masterful United Nations of Sound (2010). Meanwhile, an acoustic cover of the classic Bitter Sweet Symphony to tide us over....
Richard Thompson Acoustic Classics (LP) Love this guy, as he's a two-trick pony - he can do Celtic/British folk like no one else, and can also rock an electric guitar with the best psychedelic improv solo this side of Jimi Hendrix. His folk songs are originals, but sound like they are older than the stones. Saw him in San Francisco recently, solo, acoustic, doing newish songs as well as others from his long career, stretching back to Fairport Convention in the late 60s... So great. This is a fine collection too...
tUnE-yArDs Nikki Nack (LP) Basically a one-woman band, white performance artist Merrill Garbus plays Afro-pop influenced songs over loops, recorded live. The new album broadens her horizons, and ours as well.
