It's been three years since we lost Jay Reatard...

More pix on Facebook...

Hard to believe it's been three years since we lost one of the most creative, wild, and prolific guitarists in the garage/psychedelic revival, Jay Reatard...

Although I met him only briefly, I was so impressed with his guitar playing and mercurial personality and was terribly troubled by his untimely demise, especially coming so close on the heels of the suicide of Vic Chesnutt...

and, then two months later, the suicide of  Sparklehorse (Mark Linkous)

@Sparklehorse: Hey motherfucker! You sang "it's not so hard" and then you fucking killed yourself! It was my go-to song on depressing days... not any more! That's one reason I haven't killed myself - too discouraging for those left behind... Jay didn't kill himself but his self-destructive behavior took him from us way, way too early... Jay, Vic, Mark... as artists they were friends of us all, brave journeymen into the abyss, sending back reports... what will we do without them? or people like them?

P.S. The moral of the story is, Kids, if you have to get high, smoke weed and lay off the hard stuff...
